BEFORE YOU COMMIT

What the Complete
Program Requires.

Choose to Attend

The Challenger must understand the program, want to participate and accept its standards. Parents and Challengers should make the decision together.

Be Ready Before Arrival

This first-year package is for ages 16–18 in excellent physical condition. There are no age waivers. The returning-Cadet Ranger age of 15+ does not apply to this first-year package.

Earn Entry to Ranger Training

Graduate from CBT, then meet Ranger entry and continuing assessment requirements. Paying for the package does not guarantee a place beyond assessment or Ranger graduation.

Meet the Fitness Standards

CBT uses two-minute push-ups, two-minute sit-ups and a timed two-mile run. Graduation requires at least 50 points per event and 150 total. Additional assessment and performance standards apply in Ranger School.

Complete Family Preparation

Submit the required medical paperwork, follow course-specific packing and reporting instructions, and accept the grooming standards. Male Recruits receive the required crewcut on Receiving Day.

BEFORE RANGER TRAINING

Earn the Opportunity
To Continue.

Acceptance into Ranger training depends on CBT performance and passing the CRS evaluation. Paying for a combined package does not guarantee continuation or graduation.

One Opportunity at the Selection Evaluation

A candidate has one opportunity to pass the CRS evaluation test for that training sequence. This selection rule is separate from the continuing standards required during Ranger School. Candidates who do not meet the standard transfer to CFLC or another appropriate XMC leadership course under program policy.

The separate Cadet Ranger Leadership Course requires Ranger School, at least one other advanced course and Course Director acceptance. There are three openings per session; the Cadet Tactical Skills Training Course is highly recommended preparation.

For historical context, the 2026 published program overview reported that 35% of Ranger starters did not graduate. This is a historical program figure; current course standards, rather than a promised outcome, govern each Cadet’s progression.

AN EARNED XMC DISTINCTION

Know What This
Ranger Path Means.

Successful completion of Cadet Ranger School earns the XMC Cadet Ranger Tab. The Brown Beret requires the separate Cadet Ranger Leadership Course and the Course Director’s recommendation; it is not included or automatic. CRLC requires Cadet Ranger School, at least one other advanced course and Course Director acceptance; CTSTC is highly recommended.

Female Cadets may enroll only in Cadet Ranger School Session 2, July 11–24, 2027. At least three qualified female Cadets must be enrolled for a female training element to run. All course prerequisites and standards apply.

XMC Ranger training is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or a substitute for U.S. Army Ranger School or a military Ranger qualification.
