SERVE WITH XMC

Join the Cadre.

Help Develop Motivated Young People.

XMC seeks military and civilian professionals who bring relevant qualifications, sound judgment and a commitment to youth development. Challengers attend by choice; the Cadre’s mission is leadership and career exploration, not delinquency intervention.

Relevant Experience.

  • Recruit-training professionals, including Drill Sergeants, Drill Instructors and Military Training Instructors.
  • Military experience combined with a record of working effectively with young people.
  • Relevant transportation, medical, fitness, safety and instructional qualifications.
  • Professional skills supporting camp operations and the training mission.

Current staffing needs and assignments vary. The staff application process provides the appropriate next step; this page does not imply a fixed vacancy count.

BEFORE YOU APPLY

A Serious Commitment to Young People.

  • The role: Cadre are adult staff. Assignments depend on relevant qualifications, experience, screening and suitability for work with youth.
  • The setting: Camp Liberty in Battleground, Alabama. Staff lodging is shared bunk-room accommodation; meals are served in the Dining Facility.
  • The commitment: Expect long, active training days, professional conduct and full attention to the Challengers. Required orientation and preparation are part of the assignment.
  • Your appointment: Confirm your role, report/departure dates, compensation and travel arrangements through the staff selection process before making a commitment.

Applications are completed through CampMinder. Open the staff application and follow its account prompts.

Screening and Preparation.

Staff selection includes background screening, suitability to work with youth and required preparation. Relevant credentials and experience are reviewed for the role.

Required Preparation.
Before the Mission.

All Cadre must complete XMC’s program-specific orientation. The SOP requires Cadre Orientation Training immediately before the Training Mission, ordinarily over one to two days. Military experience and outside credentials do not replace this preparation.

Orientation covers youth protection and development, camp procedures, safety responsibilities and the standards for the assigned role. Frontline Cadre are preferably paired with experienced staff for a training cycle of shadowing; this is a preferred preparation step, not a universal completed qualification.

Professional Standards Are Non-negotiable.

Cadre must demonstrate honesty, ethical behavior, respectful treatment and active participation in the training mission. Disrespect, unprofessional behavior, mistreatment and inappropriate relationships with Challengers are prohibited.

Read the Conduct and Nondiscrimination Standards. Report concerns directly to the Camp Commander at admissions@xmccamp.com. At camp, seek immediate help from black-shirt Command or red-shirt Medical Cadre.

A Civilian-operated Program.

We are operated by Liberty Communications, LLC. Military-style ranks, titles and modified uniforms identify the XMC training structure. Employment does not make the individual a representative of the U.S. Armed Forces.

AFTER HIGH SCHOOL

Cadet to Active Duty Internship.

Experienced XMC graduates preparing for military Basic Training or college can apply for a residential internship at Camp Liberty.

CADRE OPPORTUNITIES

Bring a Skill the Mission Needs.

We welcome applications from former Army First Sergeants and recruit-training professionals, including active-duty personnel on leave, reservists, honorably discharged veterans and retirees. Army Reserve Drill Sergeant candidates still in training may also apply. Eligibility to apply does not qualify a candidate to serve as an XMC Drill Instructor. That assignment requires the successful military basic-training instructor tour described in our Drill Instructor qualification standard ↗; applicants are considered for roles matching their completed qualifications.

Useful specialist qualifications include a commercial bus-driver license, NRA instructor credentials, First Aid/CPR instructor certification and Army Combatives Instructor experience supporting instruction to Level 1 standards. XMC no longer issues Army Combatives certificates. Experience working with youth remains essential.

Discuss your qualifications and availability in the official staff application. Screening, placement and required orientation apply to every assignment.

NEW CADRE ORIENTATION

Support When You Arrive.

New Cadre receive a sponsor for their first 72 hours on post to help with the camp tour, billeting, equipment issue, introductions and settling into their role.
