AUTHORIZATION & EFFECTIVE DATE
Who May Wear OCP?
Effective January 1, 2023, all Cadet Noncommissioned Officers—CPL and above—are authorized to optionally wear OCP with XMC modifying insignia. Cadet Ranger School graduates are also authorized to wear OCP, regardless of rank.
OCP wear is a choice for authorized Cadets. The listed Cadet-supplied garments and nametapes are purchased at the Cadet’s personal expense.
What XMC Issues. What You Supply.
Cadet-supplied Items
Cadets choosing OCP supply:
- Three OCP-pattern hook-and-loop nametapes with the Cadet’s last name, such as “SMITH.” Order from 1-800-NAMETAPE.
- OCP blouse
- OCP patrol cap
- OCP trousers
- OCP boonie cap (not required)
WEAR STANDARDS
Wear a Complete, Authorized Uniform.
- Do not mix uniform items between patterns. Boots are the exception: current- or past-issue boots may be worn with all authorized uniforms.
- Cadets may bring one or more self-provided OCP uniforms. XMC issues all other required uniforms in ACU.
- Cadets choosing OCP may still receive the standard ACU issue upon reporting, as desired, providing additional uniforms for field training.
- OCP uniforms must carry the required XMC modifying insignia.
CONTINUED AUTHORIZATION
When Authorization Is Revoked.
Rangers: PFC and Below
Loss of Cadet Ranger qualification because of disciplinary issues revokes OCP authorization for Cadets at PFC and below.
Non-Rangers
A disciplinary reduction below CPL revokes OCP authorization.

Purchase Your OCP Items in Advance.
The Patriot Exchange has an extremely limited supply of OCP items. Do not plan to purchase a complete OCP uniform from the PX.
OCP garments are available through eBay, Amazon, online military retailers and local military surplus stores. Obtain the required pattern and items before reporting. Order your three last-name nametapes with hook-and-loop backing from 1-800-NAMETAPE.
